48Hr “World Championships”

May 12, 2008

All ready now for this great event.

An invited field of 12 men and 12 women, representing 12 nations, have been invited to the 23rd edition of this unique event. Run on a specially prepared, 300 metre cinder track in the centre of town this event has produced a mass of world and national records over the years and is rightly considered the de facto World Championships of the 48 Hour event.

I considers it a big step forward in my multiday running career to have been invited to this event.

I certainly feel honoured to have been invited this year and to be able to race in such illustrious company. I feel it is also a tangible form of recognition for my performances over the last two years in particular.

Highlights have been a British record (and 7th place overall) in the world’s hottest race the 135 mile Badwater Ultramarathon in July 2006; a Scottish record and 9th overall in the 153 mile Spartathlon (the world’s longest point-to-point race) in September last year; two outright wins and course records in the Monaco 6 day races of 2006 and 2007 (502 miles) giving world ranking of No1 and 3 respectively and a Scottish 48hr indoor record (213.92 miles) in the Czech Championships last year giving me a World Ranking of 12 in the 48 Hour event.

These performances obviously haven’t gone un-noticed.”

Lanzarote Training Camp

May 4, 2008

Just returned from an excellent 2 week training camp in the town of Playa Blanca on the southern tip of Lanzarote. Truely warm weather as the ‘calima’ wind blew in high humidity and high temperatures (max 39deg) from Africa.

Stuck to my normal training plan but added in extra cycling and walking and as I had access to sauna and steam room did extra heat training as well. Was able to focus on rest and recovery, flexibility work etc.

All ready now for the Surgeres 48 hour race (the de-facto 48 Hour World Championships) in south west France on May 16-18th.

Altitude training in Kenya off

February 27, 2008

With much regret I have been forced to cancel my long planned high altitude training trip to Kenya.  We were due to stay at the Lornah Kiplegat Camp in Iten, Rift Valley.  The camp currently remains closed and British Airways offered me the chance to cancel with a full refund which I have accepted.

I expect to return to Playa Blanca, Lanzarote for 2 weeks warm weather training from April 17th to May 1st instead.
